This is a continuation of a series every Friday where I will be highlighting the growth and healing of one of my readers, a new reader each week. These, my sweet ones, are their brave and vulnerable stories. Take heart…you are not alone.  -Elisabeth

When you hit rock bottom and think it can’t possibly get any worse…it does. And it is in these times that many of us cry out to God wondering where He is in the midst of our pain & suffering.

I’ve been there. More times than I would like to admit.

I can still picture myself in the kitchen with my two young children jamming out to Redeemer by Santcus Real. I had recently been laid off from my job of nearly 10 years. I was at a point in my life where I had lost my faith in so many things. Everything looked like a wreck and I definitely needed the courage to carry on. I just wanted to start over.

What I didn’t know, at the time, is that the months and years ahead would get much darker and it would be in those darkest moments that I would come to know God more.

I started digging deeper, questioning my faith and struggling with the thought of divorce. I tried to figure out God’s plan for my life and focus on “starting over.” But God is stronger and is all knowing.

I can’t even begin to try to make sense of the things that have happened and I still struggle with this being my reality. But I’m learning to focus on the beauty that comes out of the ashes. I’m learning to let go, not because I don’t care but to heal, one day at a time.

There are days when I can’t hold back the tears and feel like staying in bed all day but I’m reminded that I must press on. I’m reminded of God’s love for me and how He has never left me. Even in those dark times. Even when I doubted Him. And I am thankful for the support system he has equipped me with to come alongside me to pray and encourage me. BUT even more importantly I’m thankful that on my path of hope & healing God has reminded me that…

-When we are weak HE is strong.
-God loves people more than He love institutions.
-There is a lot of scripture that is taken out of context.
-Having a relationship with God is more important than “going to church.”
-Being still doesn’t mean we just stand still.
-Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass it’s about learning to dance in the rain…with God.
-Our systems are broken because they were created by broken people too.
-God did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.
-When we can’t see His hand we still know His heart.

Hope is all I have. Hope. Hope for today. Hope for tomorrow. Hope to carry on.

P.S. Life is short. Dance in the kitchen. These days my kids and I can be found jamming out to Fight Song. Thank you, Lord, for never leaving us!
